Triumph launches 10 bikes in India: Full report

Here it is, finally! Triumph launched 10 bikes for the Indian market today at a ceremony in Delhi. The British bikemaker has disappointed many with the prices, which are all much higher than what they announced at the 2012 Auto Expo. Here are all the models and their prices, in increasing order of awesomeness. All prices are ex-showroom Delhi.

Triumph Bonneville1. Triumph Bonneville, 5.7lacs.

The cheapest offering from Triumph isn’t much cheap after all. At 5.7lacs ex-showroom, it will easily cross 6.5lacs for people in Mumbai. It will, however, give tough competition to the Harley Davidson Iron 883. It sports a 865cc parallel twin engine that puts out a healthy 68PS with 68Nm of torque. The bike looks very “Bullet”, so expect people to ask you silly questions.

Triumph Bonneville T1002. Triumph Bonneville T100, 6.6lacs.

This is just a Triumph Bonneville with snazzy paint job. I am not sure if they have launched the Black version or the red one, but they both have nothing different under the hood, just style changes. A premium of about a lac for just a can of paint seems madness to me, but let’s wait for the details.

Triumph Thruxton3. Triumph Thruxton, 6.7lacs.

OK, so apparently Thruxton is ALSO just a Bonneville, but with modifications that make it look like a cafe racer. It has the same engine, but makes 1hp more power and 1Nm more torque, which is really commendable. Think of this as the big brother to Royal Enfield Continental GT, a very pricy big brother.

Triumph Street Triple4. Triumph Street Triple, 7.5lacs.

This is a naked streetbike, the big daddy of Duke 390 in many ways. The 675cc engine makes an awesome 106hp and 69Nm torque. It should be extremely flickable, nimble in traffic and crazy on the straights, apart from the wind blast problem that plagues all naked bikes.

Triumph Speed Triple5. Triumph Speed Triple, 10.4lacs.

This is a naked streetbike, the big daddy of Street Triple. It sports a mighty 1050cc engine that is capable of making 135hp and 111Nm of torque. This should be one of the fastest naked things out there, plenty of fun but scary at the same time. We love it all, except the price tag.

Triumph Daytona 6756. Triumph Daytona 675R, 11.4lacs.

One of the most beautiful bikes from the stable, the Daytona is a proper speed demon and very track focussed. The 675cc engine makes a hefty 128hp and 75Nm torque. It will be too scary to be your everyday bike, but would be extreme fun on a race track.

Triumph Tiger 800XC7. Triumph Tiger 800XC, 12lacs.

This is one serious off-roading maniac. The Tiger 800XC sports a three cylinder 800cc engine that puts out 95hp and 79Nm of torque, which should make it a serious dirt monster. You can take it into any inaccessible ditch around your house, or Ladakh for that matter.

Triumph Thunderbird Storm8. Triumph Thunderbird Storm, 13lacs.

This would be one of the most capable cruisers to hit the Indian shores. With a 1700c engine and lovely looks, this will be a sure crowd puller. With 98 horses and an incredible 156Nm of torque, the longest distances will seem shorter. It is one huge thing though, so parking in tight spaces won’t be its forte.

Triumph Tiger Explorer9. Triumph Tiger Explorer, 17.9lacs.

This thing is what you take to the top of Mount Everest. With a 1215cc three cylinder engine that puts out 137hp and 121Nm torque, there is no bog that can bog you down. The price is also astronomical for that matter, so we’ll leave this bike for the professionals.

Triumph Rocket III10. Triumph Rocket III, 20lacs.

This is as costly as it gets, but you do get a dream machine. This bike is as big as an apartment building, with a whopping 2300cc three cylinder engine. This crazy contraption makes 120hp and an insane 221Nm torque, which can pull the Titanic out of the sea.
