27-year-old two-time world champion Jorge Lorenzo has signed a two-year contract with Yamaha, just like his team-mate Valentino Rossi. Lorenzo has continued with Movistar Yamaha since the last 7 years, and will do so till 2016 now. Known as an aggressive rider with a penchant for dangerous moves, his stable future at Yamaha may mean better performance and more competition to the unstoppable Marc Marquez in the upcoming races. His 2013 season was marked by injuries, which allowed Marquez to grab the historic rookie championship.
Currently running fifth in this year’s championship standings, 128 points behind Marquez, Lorenzo’s this year’s chance to be world champion looks all but over. Bogged by bad luck and weird errors, like jumping the start at Austin GP, all he can focus on this year is fighting it out with Rossi to be the better points scorer within the team.
With the race weekend about to start at Indianapolis, all eyes would be on Marquez, who is running like an elephant in musth and destroying everyone in his path. The 21-year-old world champion has been given some competition by Lorenzo and Rossi, but none of them have been able to keep him away from first place. If Marquez wins this one as well, it will mean 10 wins in a row, which is insane!
Lorenzo doesn’t seem to like the Bridgestone tires a lot, which inhibit his high-corner speed riding style. But it doesn’t look like things are going to get better anytime soon for the Spaniard. Honda seems to have found some elixir for success, and both Dani Pedrosa and Marc are performing exceedingly well. With the new rules providing some advantages to the open class teams, Ducati, LCR Honda and others want to join the party up the podium as well.
This year’s MotoGP season has been a rather boring one, completely due to stellar performance of Marquez. In only 2 of the 9 races, he faced little trouble getting to the top, while in others it was just a smooth sail till the end. I really hope with all the contracts signed and all things sorted, people will start pushing hard and bring out some interesting races!
