Bajaj Avenger 2014, Pulsar 200SS and another Discover at Auto Expo

Bajaj has finally shared the list of all of their offerings to be displayed at the Auto Expo. The news is first shared by the good people at Motoroids. Let’s take a look at what we can expect from these guys:

Bajaj Avenger 2014: New power cruise from Bajaj

Bajaj Avenger 2014It’s been some time since rumors about a new power cruiser on the lines of Bajaj Avenger have been doing the rounds. The new Bajaj Avenger 2014, will actually not be an Avenger at all. It appears that Bajaj is working on a whole new cruiser concept that will fight against the Aquila 250. I have heard that the new version will be much more powerful and will shed all likeness to the Kawasaki Eliminator – the granddaddy of Bajaj avenger.

The Bajaj Avenger 220 is a 4-stroke, single cylinder, DTS-i, oil-cooled bike with max-torque of 17.5Nm @ 7000, while max power clocks at 19.03PS @ 8400. Currently you can buy the Avenger at the ex-showroom price of Rs. 79,062 in Mumbai and Rs. 79,478 in Delhi. The new cruiser concept from Bajaj should have significantly more power and torque than what the Avenger has, so obviously it will cost upwards of 1.5lacs at least. Even at that price mark, it will be almost half the price of the Hyosung Aquila 250, so win for both Bajaj and bikers!

Bajaj Pulsar 200SS

Bajaj Pulsar 200SSThis bike has been testing around the country and abroad since the beginning of time. Pulsar 200SS is nothing but a 200NS with 3 major changes: Fuel injection, full-fairing, and ABS. As expected, it will make slightly more power and torque than the NS, but don’t expect anything too much.

Projector headlights also may be a part of the package, but as of now nothing is certain. Even after the bike is displayed at the Auto Expo, it will take a while to be actually launched, which might take it to the middle of 2014 before deliveries begin. The Pulsar 200SS is expected to be priced at around 1.3lacs, and should have good road presence.

New Bajaj Discover

Bajaj DiscoverBajaj Discover has as many different models as species of fish in the ocean. I certainly have lost count, and only remember the last Discover 100M, although vaguely.

No Bajaj is planning to launch yest another iteration of the Discover. I have no idea what they will do with it now, what slight mutation and what letter from the alphabets will be chosen this time, but it will still be a commuter bike meant for the masses.

Still no sign of the Pulsar 375, Bajaj is getting too late with that bike. With the advent of beauties like Hero HX250R, Bajaj guys really want to hurry up or miss a huge opportunity.

UPDATE: All of these rumors seem to have been shattered, but happily! Bajaj has displayed the 400CS and 400SS at the Auto Expo. Check out this post for more details.
