Suzuki Gixxer 155 unveiled, launch in July

Suzuki Gixxer 155After the disaster that was Inazuma, Suzuki has unveiled a new bike for us that carries a legendary name, Gixxer. Suzuki Gixxer 155 is a small capacity offering, that is placed a tad above the GS150R and directly against the Yamaha FZ-S. I love the way the bike looks ,especially the exhaust!

Suzuki, the maker of monsters like GSXR-1300 a.k.a. Hayabusa and GSXR-1000, has used the slang name for its liter class rocket for their latest product. I am not sure how much this would work as a marketing strategy, but the name looks and sounds cool to say the least.

The bike comes with a single cylinder 155cc engine WITHOUT fuel injection. The rubber at front measures 100/80, which the rear one is a 140/60. An all digital console can be seen above the headlight, and a red monoshock adds more beauty to the rear. The stubby exhaust and nicely crafted 6 spoke alloys add a lot to the charm.

What surprised me though, is that the Suzuki Gixxer 155 has a drum brake on the rear. It is true that most 150cc bikes have disk-front, drum-rear setup, but for a premium offering like this, I expected discs all over.

I don’t expect the bike to sport any more than 14 horses, which would make it a sprightly commuter, but a slow tourer. Having said that, the fuel economy should be quite decent, over 45kmpl, so it wouldn’t gulp as much oil as my Duke does. This would also mean longer range per fuel stop.

The Suzuki Gixxer 155 will be officially launched at the Auto Expo, where the price and specs will be shared as well. In my opinion, Suzuki Gixxer 155 would sell well, but I really doubt if it will be able to dethrone the Pulsars from top of the pyramid. What do you think?
