Austin MotoGP: Lorenzo blames mosquitoes for his blunder!

Yesterday’s Grand Prix of Americas was kind of a boring one. Austin’s Circuit of the Americas was totally dominated by Hondas, with the factory team scoring a 1-2 finish. But the most funny moment of the race has to be at the start, when world champion Jorge Lorenzo made a hilarious blunder. With the rest of the grid waiting patiently for the red lights to go away, Lorenzo shot away like an arrow to everyone’s amazement! That move by Jorge fucked up the starts for a few other riders too.

He did realize his mistake even before crossing the finish line, but there was little he could do about it. Taking a ride through penalty right at the end of Lap 1, he was left stranded at the back of the grid. He clawed his way back to 10th place, but the crash in Qatar and now this Blunder in Texas have greatly reduced his chances of a championship this season, if not completely wiped them away.  

After the race, Lorenzo said that he had too many mosquitoes on his visor, due to which he removed the tear-off. Apparently that makes you color blind, and he couldn’t tell when the lights went off! The rest of his race was pretty unremarkable, with some tense moments and nice overtake moves.

It was a marvelous race by Andrea Dovizioso, who powered a Ducati to the podium after a very very long time. He was helped in part by Stefan Bradl and Bradley Smith fighting for fourth, which gave him enough gap to take the chequered flag in 3rd place. Second place was taken by Dani Pedrosa, who never looked like a threat to Marc, but was never pushed by anyone from behind either.

Valentino Rossi fans had a rough day, with the popular world champion looking pretty strong at the start, but due to some issues with the front end of his bike had to settle for 8th place. I am actually surprised he finished the race, given how uncomfortable he looked on his M1.

I really don’t want MotoGP to go the way of F1, monotonous, predictable and boring. Yes Marc Marquez is an incredible talent, but he may be doing more harm than good for the image of the sport. Let’s hope the Yamahas and Ducatis can give the Hondas a run for their money in the next round!
