Honda CBR500R to be unveiled at Auto Expo!

Honda CBR500RThis has to be THE biggest news as far as performance-at-a-budget enthusiasts in India can imagine! I just shared the happy news of Hyosung Aquila 250 to be launched soon, now Bike Advice people claim that Honda has intimated to them in an official communication that the beauty of Honda CBR500R will be showcased at the Auto Expo this February at Noida.

Rumors were flying about Honda bringing in higher capacity bikes, even some pure-bred off-roaders. CBR400R was also among the whispers, but now it looks like the half-liter beast is going to hit our shores.

Honestly, I don’t find the CBR500R THAT awesome looking as the CBR600RR, those razor-sharp edges and fluidic design seems to be missing. Having said that, I don’t really care about looks that much, it’s the 471cc parallel-twin that I care about. The 8 valve, liquid cooled, fuel-injected motor is capable of belting out 47 horses and 43Nm of torque.

Honda CBR500ROther features include:

  1. Steel tube frame
  2. 6 speed tranny
  3. 320mm front, 240mm rear discs
  4. Optional C-ABS (Combined ABS – applying the front brake also works the rear one) variant
  5. 120 rubber front, 160 at rear
  6. 193kgs weight

The bike sells for $6200, so I expect the Indian price to hover somewhere around 4.3-4.8 lacs. This feels a tad pricey, especially since Ninja 650 is available by just adding one lac more. This is just speculation, let’s wait and hope for the best!
